April 5, 1945: Task Force Rhea advanced through one-tank-front mountain passes, splitting at Assinghausen. Jack led Company C to Bruchhausen, where the burning house incident occurred after heavy fighting secured the town.
Colonel Wemple called his company commanders and platoon leaders forward on the morning of April 4th to reconnoiter Hill 693 on foot. When they returned, he laid out the plan of attack and mounted them up in eleven Sherman tanks.
