This story is a breath of fresh air, and it makes me feel a little shameful for not having read any of Vonnegut’s novels (I will fix that!). His short stories are absolutely magnificent and span a whole range of genres and emotions.
I really enjoyed reading The Pale Man last week, but it left me rather grey on the inside. For our next tale, I wanted to do something different altogether. You’ll see what I mean when you come to read it.
First published in 1934 in Weird Tales, this is a creeping story about the inevitability of death and also, for me, the importance of self-worth. Coming in at only 1,540 words, it uses a very effective method that really sunk into my bones ...
I love finding tales that hardly anyone speaks of that deserve more love. The Pale Man by Julius Long (first published in 1934) is one such story.
