I was in London last week to speak on a few different panels, two of which were at World Travel Market London — aka WTM — a conference that claims to be “the world’s most influential travel and tourism event.”
For several years in my mid-20s to mid-30s, I kept a running list of all of the countries I’d ever visited. (I’m 43 now, if you’re curious.)
One of the best parts about the work I do is that I get to talk to a lot of people. (Sometimes I think I took up journalism because it gave me a legitimate excuse to talk to strangers.)
Reading the news, it’s easy to feel like tourism is destroying the world — or at least a whole lot of neighborhoods, particularly in Europe. And there’s certainly a lot of evidence that’s happening.
