こんにちは。
高校で20年以上、英語教師をしているアナスイです。
今日は、学校現場で何度も感じてきた「言い方ひとつで、相手の受け取り方は大きく変わる」という話をします。
これは教師だけの話ではありません。
保護者対応でも、職場の連絡でも、家庭での会話でも、同じことが起きています。
同じ内容を伝えているのに、怒られることもあります。
逆に、感謝されることもあります。
その差は、ほんの少しの言葉の選び方だったりします。
欠席連絡がない生徒がいるとき

「教師＝ブラック」という言葉に、少しだけ違和感があります
「教師はブラックだ」という言葉を、よく目にします。
SNSのタイムラインでも、ニュースの見出しでも。
教員の離職率、精神疾患による休職者数、部活動の長時間拘束。
数字やデータで語られる現場の厳しさは、嘘ではありません。
私も高校の教員として、その現実の中にいます。
だからこそ、その言葉の持つ力と、その言葉が覆い隠してしまうものについて、少しだけ書いておきたいと思います。

「何度言っても変わらない」が、仕組みひとつで変わった話
教室のゴミ箱の話をさせてください。
私の学校では、各教室に「燃えるゴミ用」と「ペットボトル用」のゴミ箱があります。
ペットボトルを捨てるときは、ラベルを剥がしてキャップを外す。
その2つは燃えるゴミへ。ボトル本体だけをペットボトル用のゴミ箱へ。
これを守らないと、掃除担当の生徒が自販機横のゴミ箱に移すとき、
誰が飲んだかわからないペットボトルのキャップやラベルを一本ずつ剥がすことになります。

席替えを「ボタンひとつ」にしたら、クラスが変わった話
席替え。
生徒にとっては一大イベントですが、
教師にとっては、正直なところ「手間」でしかありませんでした。
以前の私は、紙にあみだくじを手書きで作り、
クラス全員の名前が漏れていないかを一人ひとり確認していました。
40人近くの名前を、ひとつも漏らさないように指でなぞりながら確認する。
地味ですが、これが意外と神経を使います。
席替えが終わったら終わりではありません。
新しい座席表をパソコンで作り直して、印刷する作業も待っています。

「なんで校則があるの？」
生徒にこう聞かれたこと、ありませんか。
高校教師をしていると、一度は飛んでくる質問です。
親として、子どもから聞かれることもあるかもしれません。
私はまずこう答えます。
どんな集団にも決まりはあるよね。
会社にも、スポーツチームにも、家庭にも。
学校だって例外ではないよ、と。
そして、みんながその決まりを守ることで、
みんなが学校生活を過ごしやすくなっているのであれば、
校則は必要なものだと言えます。
