妻が娘のダンスのお迎えに行き、家にはぼくと小3の息子だけが残りました。
息子はもうお風呂に入っていました。
ぼくはまだ入っていませんでした。
すると息子が、何度も聞いてきました。
「お父さん、まだお風呂入らないの？」
「まだ入らないよ」
そう答えながらも、ぼくは少しだけ引っかかっていました。
なんとなく、そわそわしている。
なんとなく、早くぼくにお風呂へ行ってほしそうにしている。

キボシイシガメという亀がいます。
英語では、Spotted turtle。
学名は、Clemmys guttata。
北アメリカの東側に暮らす、
小さな淡水の亀です。
沼。
湿地。
浅い池。
小さな流れ。
春だけ水がたまる池。
やわらかい泥と、水草のある場所。
そういう、
静かで浅い水辺を使いながら暮らしています。
この亀は、
大きな亀ではありません。...
子どもに手伝わせることと、ぼくが動けなかったこと
土日は、子どもたちとゆっくり過ごすことができました。
そう書くと、いい休日だったように聞こえます。
実際、いい時間もたくさんありました。
でも、その一方で、ぼくの中には少し重たいものも残りました。
月曜日から金曜日まで仕事をしていると、土日にはかなり疲れが残っています。
すると、子どもと過ごす時間があるにもかかわらず、ぼくは自分のことをしたくなります。
スマホを触りたい。

何も考えずにぼーっとしたい。

学名は、Glyptemys muhlenbergii。
北アメリカに暮らす、
とても小さな亀です。
成体になっても、
甲羅の長さはだいたい10センチほど。
北アメリカで最も小さい亀の一つとされています。
小さいけれど、
その存在感は、なかなか忘れられません。

オレンジ色から黄色の斑があり...
