今日は、先日港から帰ろうとした時のことを書こうと思う。
工房を出たあと、人の姿になったシュマリと二人で、荷揚げ場のあたりを歩いた。
干した魚や南蛮渡りの菓子、びいどろの鈴。
珍しいものばかりで片っ端から覗いて回って、気づけば両手が食べ物でいっぱいになっていた。
見慣れない顔立ちの人も、金色の髪の女性も時々見かける。さすが貿易港だ。
この中なら白髪のシュマリでも目立たないだろう。……いや、目立つか。
その先の桟橋に、見覚えのある背中があった。
七夕送りの日...
理玄の日記 -きらを摺った紙-
朝いちばんに、幽世の工匠から報せが来た。
頼んでいた術符が仕上がったから、羽野浜港まで取りに来いとのことだった。
歩けば四時間はかかる距離だ……この暑さでは厳しいな、と思っていたら、
狼姿のシュマリが「乗っていきなよ」と背を向けてくれた。
いつもそばにいるからつい忘れがちなんだけど、シュマリはこれでも神獣で、
自分だけの「神域」を持っている。決まった先までなら、そこを抜けてひとっ飛びで行けるんだ。
でも、シュマリの神域は何度通っても慣れない。

理玄の日記 -粋な四股名-
今日は手習いが終わったあと、子どもたちが庭で相撲を取りはじめた。
「東ー、大岩山ー！」
「西ー、赤とんぼー！」
呼び出しの真似をして、めいめい勝手な名を名乗っている。
赤とんぼは一見弱そうな名前だと思ったけれど、その子が一番強かった。
「先生もやろうよ」
案の定、袖を引っぱられた。
暑い日に転がされると、あとで色々と面倒なことになる。
……とは言えないので、軍配のかわりに扇を抜いて構えた。
「先生は行司をやるよ。相撲は勝負を判定する人が必要だろ」...
理玄の日記 -傘の名は-
今日は縁側で一傘（イルサン）の骨を拭いていた。
「ちょいと、もっと優しくやっておくれよ」
「動くからだろ、じっとしててよ」
拭きながら、前から気になっていたことを聞いてみた。
「ところでさ、一傘って本当はなんて名前なの」
一傘はしばらく黙っていた。
それから「さあねぇ、もう忘れたわ」とだけ言って、勝手にくるりと回った。
僕ははぐらかされたようだ。
契約したあの夜、傘から引き剥がした時にも真名を尋ねたけれど、答えなかった。
だから僕が新しく名を付けて、...
理玄の日記 -さきわう言霊-
今日は、叔母のきよのさんの家に遊びに来た。
昼餉（ひるげ）は冷や汁だというので、僕も手伝うことになった。
焼いた川魚とごまと味噌をすり合わせて、冷たい井戸水でのばして、麦飯にかける。
夏はこれが一番うまい。
「そこのあたり鉢を取ってちょうだい」
あたり鉢……。
言われるまま渡したけれど、あれはどう見ても、すり鉢だ。
聞いてみたら、験を担ぐ人は「する」を嫌って言い換えるんだって。
金をする、財布をする、に通じてしまうから。
するめをあたりめと呼ぶのも...
