Over a roadless lagoon

With the lopping splash of mullet.
The mainland had switched off its lights
Yet the silhouette of palm trees

This was written some years ago now, when my thinking was firmly rooted in atheism. I am less confident about my theological position now, or non-position, than I was then, but then again, I don’t think this necessitates an atheist reading....
During the pandemic, I began to write this poem. That period of stasis and immobility made me hungrier than ever for movement and so I explored in this poem what it is about travel that galvanises me. I’ve added bits since.
