私は星空のある風景を撮り続けて50年になります。社会人になってからは41年、眼鏡の総合商社で企画やものづくり、発信に携わってきました。特別な才能があったわけでもありません。それでも、小さく始めて、淡々と続けて、発信を重ねているうちに、写真集やカレンダーの商業出版ができたり、作ったiPhoneアプリが日本で3位になったり、テレビやラジオに出演させていただいたりと、普通に会社員をしていたら絶対に味わえない経験をさせてもらいました。

先週の水曜日、通勤の途中に「夏と冬の間」という言葉が浮かんできました。

半年分の昼食を我慢して買った望遠鏡で、見えたもの
中学2年生のとき、同じクラスのしょうゆちゃんという男の子（本名佐藤君ですが、砂糖→しょうゆと呼ばれてました）が「流れ星は一晩に何個も出る」と話してくれたのがきっかけで、私は星に夢中になりました。
凝りやすい性格の私は、休み時間ごとにしょうゆちゃんに質問を投げかけ、数か月のうちに図書館の天文関係の本をすべて読んでしまいました。月刊天文ガイドもボロボロになるまで読んで、夜は星座早見盤を片手に星座をたどる毎日でした。

先日「こんなところには何もないよ」地方の価値とは？という記事を書かせていただきました。
地方で撮影していると、地元の方からこの言葉を本当によく聞きます。真夜中に三脚を立てていると声をかけられ、何をしているか説明すると、たいてい少し不思議そうな顔をされる。こんな何もないところに、わざわざ来たのか、と。
でも50年近く星を撮ってきて、はっきり言えることが...
