自分をてわたす、ということ
人は、ずっと同じ自分のままで生きていくわけではない。
経験や、身を置く環境や、一緒に過ごす人などによって、少しずつ形づくられる。
そう考えると、人は時間の経過や周囲との関係のなかで形を変える、流動体のようなものに思えてくる。
中3の次男は、この夏休みを受験勉強に向けると決めた。
もし受験がなかったなら、別のことに打ち込んでいたはずの夏だ。
彼はそれを脇によけて、勉強することを選んだ。

給食袋をゆらして、坂道をぬけて
給食袋というものがある。
僕が子どもの頃は、残したパンやチューブ入りのハチミツ（あの先っぽの丸い部分をひねり切って使うやつ）などを持ち帰るときにも使うものだった。
それぞれにお気に入りの色や柄で巾着袋を作ってもらって、
ランドセルの横の金具にひっかけていた。
みんな、色とりどりの巾着をゆらしながら小学校に通っていた。
この夏、お盆を過ぎた頃に、「よしっ！」と自分を奮い立たせて、受話器を手に取った。
母の声を聞きたかっ...

「しあわせのアンカー」という表現を、僕はよく使う。
この手帳にも、これまでいくつかの「しあわせのアンカー」を描いてきた。
子どもたちを自転車に乗せて、いっしょに見た景色。
「きいろちゃん」の車内に響く笑い声や、はげしい雨音。
おんなじ海で、磯遊びばかりしていた海辺の暮らし。
物や場所、音、匂い、からだの感覚に結びついた記憶。
『おれはあの時間が最高に好きなんだよ〜。』
そう言いながら、子どもたちは、それぞれに大切な記憶をたどる。

自分でえらぶ、ということ
長男が8歳、次男が6歳になる頃の夏の日記に、こう書いた。
夏休みに入る前に考えていた事がある。
この休み中は、子どもたちそれぞれの足りないところを引き上げるのでは無くて、良いところをどんどん伸ばしてやろう。
そこだけ気をつけて、あとはできるだけ自由にしてやろう。
そんな風に考えていた。
子どもたちはその思わく通りに成長を遂げたようだ。
光るところはさらに輝きを増し、今ひとつだったところは更にひどくなる、という結果になった…笑。

海辺の町と、もうひとつの暮らし
毎日海しか行かねぇーんだもんな。一日中おんなじ海で遊ぶだけ。
そんで昼に漁港のスピーカーから音楽が流れると昼メシ食うの。
おにぎりとか焼きそば。炒めたウィンナーとか、ゆでたまご。
あとはキュウリのデカい漬物を冷やしたやつ。
いつもおんなじ物ばっかりなんだよな。
でもバカみたいにウマイの。
もういい加減、違うことやって、違うもの食べたっていいのにな。
なんであんなにおもしれーんだろうな。
ひとつひとつ思い出すように、次男が海辺の町の暮らしのこ...
