祈りのライン 第三話剣を持たない不動明王
沖縄本島、奥武山。
琉球八社の一つ、沖宮を訪れた時の話しです。
社殿へ手を合わせたあと、境内の奥にあり上へと続く石段を登ると、その先にあるのが天燈山御嶽(てんとうざんうたき)です。
ここの御嶽は、天受久女龍宮王(天照大神)が祀られている奥宮となっています。
そして、そのすぐ隣には、一体の不動明王が静かに立っています。
その姿をはじめて見た瞬間、私は思わず足を止めました。

「帰る」という文化
沖縄には、「帰る」という営みが、ごく自然に暮らしの中へ溶け込んでいます。
旧盆になると、祖先が帰ってくる。
シーミー(清明祭)では、家族や親族が墓前へ集まる。
地域の祭りや神事があると、島を離れて暮らす人たちも故郷へ帰ってくる。
与那国島のマチリでも、島の内外に暮らす一族が、この日のために帰ってきます。
今は飛行機で、昔は船で。
時代は変わっても、「帰る」という営みは変わりません。

前回、私は琉球に繰り返し現れる「七」という数字を辿りました。
七世生神。
四十九日。
