俺はパソコンの画面を見ながら、スマホを肩と耳で挟んだ。

『今切ろうと思ってたのよ』
母はそう言ってから、卵が十個で百七十八円だった話をした。
知らん。
卵がいくらでも、俺の人生にはほとんど影響がない。...
歯カ
上の歯は、下の歯を見下している。
物理的に。
「おはよう、下々の者」
朝一番、上の前歯が言った。
下の前歯はまだ寝ていた。
「……誰が下々の者だ」
「下にいるだろ」
「位置の話じゃねえか」
「位置は身分を表す」
「じゃあ鼻毛はお前より偉いのか」
上の前歯が黙った。
朝七時六分。
本日の上下対立が始まった。
「そもそも」
上の前歯は仕切り直した。
「我々、上の歯は、食べ物を上から迎え撃つ重要な役割を担っている」
「迎え撃ってねえよ」

最後に一点だけ
会議は三十分の予定だった。
十時開始。
十時半終了。
議題は一つ。
「新しい社内ポータルの背景色を何色にするか」
どうでもいい。
いや、仕事だからどうでもよくはないのかもしれない。でも、三十七歳の俺が人生の午前中を使って決めることとしては、かなりどうでもいい部類に入る。
候補は青と緑だった。
十時二十八分。
青に決まった。
終わった。
俺はノートパソコンを閉じかけた。
そのとき、営業部の森田が言った。
「最後に一点だけいいですか？」

遅刻の理由
会社に着いたのは、九時四十三分だった。
始業は九時。四十三分の遅刻である。もはや「ちょっと遅れました」ではない。ちょっとした旅行だ。
「おはようございます」
誰も返事をしない。
全員がパソコンを見ている。見ているが、見ていない。耳だけがこっちを向いている。
課長が言った。
「佐伯」
「はい」
「何時だと思ってる」
九時四十三分です、とは言えない。知ってるから聞いている。時刻当てクイズではない。
俺は鞄を置きながら考えた。
寝坊した。
普通に寝坊した。...
正論は行き止まり
正論が痛いのではなく、逃げ道を塞がれることが痛い。
よく言う。
「正しいことほど刺さる」とか、
「図星だから痛い」とか。
たしかに、そういうこともある。
仕事でミスをした人に、
「ちゃんと確認してれば防げたよね」
締切を破った人に、
「もっと早くやればよかったじゃん」
恋人とうまくいっていない人に、
「嫌なら別れればいいじゃん」
たぶん、間違ってはいない。
むしろ正しい。
でも、本当に痛いのは、
正しいことを言われたからなんだろうか。
たぶん...
