とにかく力任せです。
音を出すにも全力。
小さな音を出そうとしても出せない。
今思えば随分不器用でした。
でも、その遠回りがあったからこそ今の音があります。
前回の記事に続いて今回はそんなゴリラ篳篥時代の失敗談です。

頑張れば頑張るほど、うまくいく。
昔の私は、そう信じていました。
篳篥もそうですし、仕事もそうです。
とにかく全力。
息を目一杯吹き込んで、力を込めて、誰よりも大きな音を出そうとしていました。
でも、不思議なものです。
力を入れれば入れるほど、音は苦しくなります。
息は続かない。
身体は固まる。
演奏が終わる頃には、もうヘトヘトです。
雅楽をされる方なら分かると思いますが、篳篥は初手から心を折られる楽器です。

「きれい」というより先に、「何、この音？」と思うかもしません。
音楽をやっている人ほど不自然な響きに聞こえるはず。
和音なのに、濁っている。不協和音っぽいのに、不思議と落ち着く。
しかも音が切れない。
ずっと、雲みたいに形を変え続ける。
雅楽の中でも一際不思議な響きだと思うんですよ。
1200年以上前から伝わる、かなり異常な“和音システム”。

今年は個人的に笙の調律をマスターしようと思ってます。先日笙作り名人のT先生にお会いすることができ、お話を伺うとT先生が突然言い出したのです。
最初は冗談かと思いました。
でも話を聞くと、430Hz付近で調律すると、篳篥や龍笛が共振して壊れやすくなるというんです。
