Dec. 10: Wednesday of the Second Week of Advent
Today’s lesson is, these readings don’t always mean what you think they mean. It’s not a question of ambiguity and interpretation, but more about the societal context in which they were written, as opposed to where we are now.
Let’s get the obvious out of the way, first. The Feast of the Immaculate Conception is Mary’s, not Jesus’. The latter would be the Feast of the Annunciation which, confusingly, is the story in today’s Gospel.
Today is the Feast of St. Nicholas, although the readings are still dedicated to the first Saturday of Advent. But if you want to learn about St. Nick, here’s an old post where you can read all about him.
