おはようございます。チェコの小さな町・ズノイモからの手紙です。
丘の上のバーで、夕暮れを見ながら書いています。ここの日の沈み方が良すぎて、もう少しこの町にいることにしました。ワインもすすみます。

９都市目で、直感に「理由」がついた話
4/6に羽田を出て３ヶ月が経った。今いるチェコ南部の街・ズノイモは、９都市目となる。
トルコに２ヶ月いたのち、この１ヶ月は６都市を点々としている。トルコは「半居住した街」、あとの６つは「旅行者として関わった街」だ。
これまでの旅で一番思い入れのある街は、トルコのイスタンブールとイズミル。最初に訪れたのは11年前。そこから「また行きたい」を長々と温めることになったこの街の印象は、優劣ではなく、ごく個人的な「好きな街の基準」だ。

11年前、イズミルに来た。私は「一度でいいから、ゆっくりここで過ごしてみたい」と思っていたが、当時一緒に来た元夫に今回の旅程を伝えたところ、「イズミルに１か月もいて、なんかやることあります？ｗ」と言われた。 同じ景色を見て真逆の印象を持っていたというのだから、さもありなんという感じだ。

トルコで、全員が同じ場所で道を渡った話
イズミルから鈍行列車とバスを乗り継いで、北にあるまち・ベルガマ。「街」より「町」という表現がぴったりくるような、郊外の小さいまちだ。
私たちが降りたバスターミナル、という名の質素な駐車場は、この路線の終点だった。たくさんの遺跡が集まる市街地までの交通手段は、ドルムシュ（町バス）か、徒歩で25分。５月中旬、まだ涼しかったのもあって、私たちも含めた乗客・総勢10人ほどは、同じ方向へ歩きだした。
