私は高校時代、生物工学科という学科にいた。生命が好きな少年だった彼は中学生のときに観たNHKスペシャル「生命40億年はるかな旅」に刺激を受け、この学科を志望した。
この番組ではコンピューターグラフィックで作られた古代生物たちが登場し、とても心躍ったのを覚えている。見たこともない生き物たちが空想の世界に現れては、まるで本当にいるかのごとく脳内に棲みついていく。
